Files you can upload
| Format | Typical source | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 3DM | Rhino, often with MatrixGold or RhinoGold | Converted in your browser. A file saved without render meshes (Save Small, or never shaded) is meshed from its surfaces on upload. |
| OBJ | Most CAD and 3D tools | Loaded as it is. |
| GLB | Exports from most 3D tools | Loaded as it is. |
No Rhino? If part of a 3DM file still cannot be converted, Jewel Shots offers to take it off your hands. Choose Send it to us: we prepare the file, add it to your Jewel Shots models and email you when it is there.
Metal, stones and parts
A CAD file holds many pieces: the band, prongs, a gallery, a centre stone, side stones and often things that were never meant to be seen. Jewel Shots sorts them into parts and decides whether each is metal or stone. It works from the 3DM materials, the part's name, its material and its shape. Every part shows which of these it was decided from, so you can see where a guess came from.
- Correct a part to Metal or Stone, or Hide it.
- Customizable or Fixed. A customizable part follows the shopper's metal and stone switches. A fixed part keeps its own colour, which is how a white-gold head on a yellow-gold band or mixed coloured stones are set up.
- Select pieces to remove drops individual pieces such as a sizer, a reference plane or a stray copy, even when they sit on the same layer as parts you keep. This can be undone.
Set the look
- Metals: up to four per model, each built from Yellow, Rose or White with whiteness and darkness controls, or any colour. Name them as you sell them, for example “18K Yellow”.
- Stones: up to four per model, from 16 presets such as White Diamond, Fancy Yellow, Sapphire Blue or Ruby Red, or any colour.
- Finish: from polished through brushed to matte.
- Background: white, transparent, or any colour.
These settings belong to the model. Every place it is shown uses them, and a change you save reaches every viewer of it. Diamonds are rendered facet by facet with the same renderer as Ring Facet's Ring Builder. How the renderer works.

FAQ
Which CAD files can I upload?
Rhino 3DM, OBJ and GLB. Rhino files are converted in your browser, including files saved without render meshes.
Do I need Rhino to prepare the file?
No. Rhino files saved without render meshes are meshed on upload. If parts of a file still cannot be converted, you can send it to us: we prepare it, add it to your Jewel Shots models and email you when it is there.
How are metal and stones recognised?
Each part is detected as metal or stone from the 3DM materials, its name, its material or its shape. You can correct any part, hide one, or keep a part at its own fixed colour for two-tone metal or mixed stones.
Can I use the same model on Shopify and on my own website?
Yes. One model can be published to Shopify products and placed on any website with an embed code, and every viewer shows the same colours, finish and background.
Can I make product images and videos from the same file?
Yes. Jewel Shots exports PNG and JPEG product images and short videos from the same model.
Can I remove parts I do not want shown, like a sizer or a reference plane?
Yes. Select pieces to remove in the editor drops individual pieces, and the change can be undone.
